Corporate Social Responsibility
The Directors and Staff at Surface recognise the importance of their commitment to corporate social, economic and environmental responsibilities.
The success of the company depends upon our reputation and the relationships we have with our clients and stakeholders.
The nature of our business – environmental assessment, planning engineering and design services – means that it goes without saying that we act in a socially responsible manner. Whilst we are a commercial business, and of course the numbers matter, the activities we undertake are influencing and making improvements to individuals’ lives. Wherever possible, Surface tries to put something back whether through local employment, staff apprentices, year in industry opportunities or by supporting staff involvement with community initiatives.
Surface has always placed high emphasis on community involvement, minimising our carbon footprint, and sustainability. For example, we contribute funding to a pre-school for disadvantaged children in a South African township, covering the costs for food, toiletries and education material. We regularly visit to ensure that the money is used to directly benefit the children.
We have developed our own wind turbines in the UK, investing our own money in generating carbon free energy for the next 20 years. The site is at Wheatrig in North Ayrshire, Scotland, and generates over 1 million kWh per year of clean renewable energy which off-sets the energy used by our offices and staff, as well as providing the company with an income which enables us to invest in our staff and equipment whilst maintaining competitive fees.
