James Carey

Landscape Architect
BA(Hons) PGDip
4 years experience

James was born in York and spent much of his early life in the city before moving to the midlands for his studies, having only recently returned. As an award winning student, James studied both undergraduate and postgraduate Landscape Architecture at the Birmingham School of Architecture, Birmingham City University. After university he worked in practice in Birmingham for several years. Here James gained considerable experience in public realm, healthcare, and education design working on projects such as The Royal Liverpool Hospital, Durham University and the former BBC Pebble Mill Studio regeneration in Birmingham. Prior to studying Landscape Architecture, James worked and studied as a Garden Designer in Nottingham. This is where his passion for plants and fine detail began. It is this passion that James brings to each of his projects in both the hard and soft elements of the design. He believes that regardless of budget, good detailing and well considered specification can make a scheme stand out.

Outside of work you will often find James searching for ideas and inspiration in parks and gardens or roaming the countryside with his French Bulldog, Rupert, in search of a good walk and a fine pub. As a keen traveller he takes every opportunity to hop on a plane and visit a new city or country, often spending his summer holidays with a backpack in exhausting tropical climates.
